Monday Motivation for Success from Siva (48): The decision to love is forever

Hi,
For most people, the mind always gives problems. Sometimes, it accepts something and at other times it rejects the same thing. There is a difference between what the heart says and the mind thinks. But for the elevated, the heart and mind are one. Here is an illustration from the Sri Kandha Puranam.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The decision to love is forever
Uma Devi was daughter of king Daksha of Dakshapuri. When she attained the age of five itself, she told her parents that she wanted to meditate on Lord Shiva in order to get him as her husband. Accordingly, she meditated on Lord Shiva for several years in a hermitage on the outskirts of Dakshapuri.

Having learnt about it, Lord Shiva wanted to test her. He sent a messenger who went to her and told her, "Shiva is an unintelligent, bogus man. He is always naked, he wears garlands of skulls and ornaments of snakes, he smears dust from the ashes of corpses all over his body, he wears rudraaksha beads, he always carries a trident, and he sits on a bull like a mad person. Why have you chosen him to be your husband? He is not fit to be your husband. Forget him."
Her father also told her, "Oh, my dear daughter, change your mind. I will get you married to a greater personality or someone else who is very beautiful. Why have you chosen Shiva? Change your mind."

Uma Devi was always firm in her mind and told, "It may be that Shiva wanders naked, plays with ghosts and witches, ornaments himself with serpents, and sometimes swallows poison. But even if all this is true, I will marry him and no one else. I have chosen him for all time, even though he does nothing. I don't want to give him up. I will marry him."

So many other suiters came, and even Shiva himself came in disguise to test her, but she did not change her mind.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the kali yuga, we go through a conflict between the heart and mind. While the heart loves doing one thing, the mind thinks of another. The mind challenges the heart; brings up its own analysis, puts forth its arguments, and convinces the heart. In the process, the heart loses out and changes its own stance for the sake of some apparent benefits. On the other hand, when the heart's calling is heard and accepted by the mind, the love becomes passion, and it stays with it forever. Such a love, be it for a person or a profession or a dream or a service, has the potential to take a person to heights of great success.

To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva
