Thought of the Day (143): Doing Good to Others is Leadership

"What greater bliss than to look back on days spent in usefulness, in doing good to those around us."
Dorothea Dix

"I believe that every human mind feels pleasure in doing good to another."
Thomas Jefferson

Let us talk about leadership and some of the qualities of great leaders in the next few posts. First of all, doing good is the fundamental responsibility of one and all. And, when it is done in the interest of others, it becomes much more glorious than when it is done for oneself.

Great leaders think of doing good to others, and they take every opportunity to serve others by helping them in the ways they could. That's what makes the people develop trust in them and accept them as their leaders.

There is a leader in every individual. Indeed a great leader waiting to be recognised and realised! Start thinking good of others. Start thinking doing good to others. Start doing good to others. Let the leader in you grow from good to great.

Thought of the Day (142): Teach Yourself; Teach Others.

"Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored."
Earl Nightingale

"A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning."
Brad Henry

Learning is a continuous process. It is important to learn everyday for updating your knowledge, upgrading your skills, and improving your attitude. There are plenty of opportunities available now-a-days for learning. There are books. There are people. There are several online resources which you could take advantage of and learn by yourself. A lot of it is available at FREE of cost. Learn to teach yourself.

Then, the next step to make use of that knowledge you gained and the skills you learned is to utilize them for the greater good of yourself and that of others. Share the knowledge with others. That will help you consolidate your own knowledge in the first place. When you teach others, you will also teach yourself. Won't you? You will by all means. When you teach, it would fall on your ears first before reaching those of the people you teach.

Teach yourself. Teach others. At every given opportunity!

With love,
Siva

Thought of the Day (141): From today, I will become useful

"What greater bliss than to look back on days spent in usefulness, in doing good to those around us."
Dorothea Dix

"As you have learnt something of time, value and make a proper use of it. Once past, it knows no return; how necessary, then, that you spend it in improving your mind and fitting it for future happiness and usefulness.
Dorothea Dix

Are you creating value to the organization you are working for? Are you useful to your family? Are you contributing to the happiness of the society you are living in. Are you using your god-gifted talents in a productive manner? Are you living the life of a giver? It is time you think critically about what you are and how you have been contributing to the people who you live and work with in particular and to the world in general.

Become a blessing to the mankind, not a burden. There is so much potential inside of you. That is not meant to be hidden. The purpose of your knowledge and skills you gained over time is to utilize them for the greater good of yourself, your family, your organization, and the society.

Unleash the best of yours, and start becoming a contributor from TODAY. Your success is guaranteed.

Thought of the Day (140): Smile liberally and raise your happiness quotient

"The smile on my face doesn't mean my life is perfect, it just means I appreciate what I have and what God has blessed me with."
Anonymous

"Because of your smile, you make life more beautiful."
Thich Nhat Hanh

Are you happy? If yes, where is that smile on your face that symbolizes your happiness? Are you hiding it? If so, why? Does the smile show up automatically as you talk? Smile is a god-given gift that is meant to be shared liberally with others, and NOT to be hidden inside. Let me share with you a personal experience of mine.

Yesterday, I met a lift mechanic who came to repair the lift in the place where I stay. He completed his job, and he was about to leave the place. After my inquiry about the status of the lift and what went wrong with it, I invited him for a cup of coffee, which he refused saying that he was on an urgency to go back home to meet some domestic issues. Elaborating further, he told that his wife was diagnosed with a water bubble inside her stomach and the doctor suggested her to undergo a surgery to remove the bubble. He said that he was worried because she had already undergone surgeries 3 times earlier for other reasons, and it might be difficult for undergo another surgery now.

And, one thing I noticed all the while as he was explaining was a smile on his face. I was wondering how he could keep that smile on his face even while he was going through such a difficult time. I was awestruck with appreciation for him and his attitude. His smile did not mean that he was not feeling the pain of his wife's illness. He was very much concerned, but he was able to smile. I am sure that attitude and that ability to retain a smile on his face will sail him through at all times, and make his family a happy family.

Keep that smile. For god sake do not lose it. He gifted it to you with a wish that you share it liberally with others. Smile and spread the cheer. You will soon see happiness quotient going up.

 To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva

Thought of the Day (139): Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached

"Arise! Awake! and stop not until the goal is reached."
Swami Vivekananda

This is one of the most popular quotes of Swami Vivekananda. It is said that this quote has its origin in Katha Upanishad )chapter 1.3.14) as stated below:

उत्तिष्ठत जाग्रत प्राप्य वरान्निबोधत ।

उत्तिष्ठत (Arise), जाग्रत (Awake), प्राप्य वरान्निबोधत (stop not till the desired end is reached).

The word 'arise' suggests that we get up, keep moving, and be in action in the direction of our chosen goal.

The word 'awake' asks us to awaken ourselves from our ignorance of ourselves and our true potential. There is enormous potential hidden in each one of us which we are not aware of. It is time we understand that and start exploring ourselves and the enormous potential that we humans are gifted with. If we are fully and truly 'awake' in that context, there is nothing impossible for us to achieve. Any goal, however big it is, can be achieved.

Thought of the Day (138): For those who think higher, no limits exist.

Hi,
“Believe you can and you’re half way there.”
– Theodore Roosevelt

"You can't change who you are, but you can change what you have in your head, you can refresh what you're thinking about, you can put some fresh air in your brain."
 - Ernesto Bertarelli

Think of this Roger Federer, The Greatest All Time Tennis Champion and to his wining ways at the age of 36. He was not winning any grand slams after his last grand slam in 2012 year after year. People thought age caught up with him. No one ever won a grand slam beyond the age of 32 in the open era. Everyone wrote him off. But he proved them wrong. After a 5-year long gap, he won a grand slam title at Australian Open this year, and followed it with his 8th Wimbledon Trophy. When you look at him now playing tennis, you find him to be very fresh with a lot of positive thinking and zeal to scale new heights.

Actually, he achieved so much in his life, he could have as well called it quits to tennis years ago and stayed back at home. There was not a single major tennis title he did not win. HBut his zeal to win more is greater now than ever before. His passion for the game is evident in every shot he hits. His love for the game shows that he is not the one who sits on his laurels, but the one who wants to explore the best of himself and prove to the world that limits do not exist for those who think higher and believe in accomplishing more.

It is time now to get rid of the self-limiting beliefs and strive to scale new heights in what you do. Go for it. You can do it. Start pushing yourself towards your chosen goal. Your success is guaranteed.

To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva

Thought of the Day (137): 6 Ways to Keep Your Attitude Up When Life Tries to Bring You Down

Hi,
Sharing with you today the article "6 Ways to Keep Your Attitude Up When Life Tries to Bring You Down" written by Chris Widener. It is reproduced below:

A positive attitude is key to a successful life, so what happens when things go wrong? We have a tendency to let our attitudes take a dive along with our state of affairs. But life is going to deal setbacks, both minor and major, on a regular basis, and if we are going to be successful, we need to know how to keep our attitudes intact.

We need practical tools to help us understand how we can keep our attitudes up when the circumstances are down. Here are some thoughts to help us do so:

1) Take some time away.
2) Keep your eye on the goal.
3) Focus on solutions, not problems.
4) Get some positive input.
5) Tell yourself the good.
6) Remember that circumstances are not forever.

Full article describing each of the above mentioned 6 steps could be read at the link given below:

Thought of the Day (136): The Law of Giving and Receiving.

"The law of giving and receiving is simple. If you want love, learn to give love; if you want attention and appreciation, learn to give attention and appreciation; if you want material affluence, help others to become materially affluent. "
Deepak Chopra

"If you want to be blessed with all the good things in life, learn to silently bless everyone with all the good things in life. The more you give the more you will receive."
Deepak Chopra

That is the Law of Giving and Receiving as stated and explained by Deepak Chopra. As such there is greater joy in giving than in receiving. The secret is in giving, in finding ways and means of giving others what they want, and in helping others become what they want to become. You will eventually get what you want and become what you want to become.

Start giving something or the other every single person you come in contact with. Start looking for opportunities for giving and begin thinking about helping others. Shift your focus from receiving to giving, and start giving more and more, you will soon start receiving more and more.

Thought of the Day (135): Your kindness depends on who are, and not on what others do to you.

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."
Mother Teresa – 1910-1997, Religious Sister and Missionary

"Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you."
Princess Diana

Are you a kind person at your heart, in your thoughts, words, and actions? With all the people you interact with? Great, you are truly kind then. But if you are kind only towards kind people and not so towards the people who do not matter to you, would you still call yourself a kind person? No, certainly not. If you are a kind-hearted person, you are kind always irrespective of the person you are dealing with. It can not be a conditional kindness. It has to be kindness without conditions. Because that is what you are at the core of yourself.

If your kindness depends who others are and what they do, it becomes a conditional kindness. But, if it depends only on you and not on others, you are truly a kind person.

You are born to be kind and destined to succeed in life.

Thought of the Day (134): Judge none by practicing nonjudgment; You will explore yourself much more.

"The stage is a place where I can be wholly myself. Even though you're in front of people almost to be judged, it is a place without judgement."
Florence Welch

"Practicing nonjudgment is another way to experience the Law of Pure Potentiality."
Deepak Chopra

Do not judge others. Also, do not worry about others' judgement of you. Explore yourself. There is a lot to learn about yourself and you need to spend time for that. There is no time for you to waste in judging others right or wrong, good or bad, or true or false. Take time to explore yourself and unleash yourself for the good of you and your world.

You are born to succeed and destined to be great.

Thought of the Day (133): Your behaviour is your character that paves your path to success.

"People's character is their behaviour - we're all capable of good and evil."
Bertie Carvel

"The world sees in our conduct, in our behaviour, the proof that we are the real children of God."
Pope Shenouda III

The way we behave shows what our character is. The way we behave with different people, in different situations, at different times, and at different places reveals what our character is. Do we behave in the same way? Or do we change with time, space, and the situation? We are capable of moulding our behaviour in the way we want it to be. It is in our hands. Your behaviour is your character that could pave your path to your success or lead you to your destruction.

Be mindful of this fact every minute of your life and mold your behaviour for your good. You are born to be good and destined to become great.

Thought of the Day (132): Are you giving time to yourself? At least 1%?

"Don't think about making life better for other people who don't even deserve you, rather, focus on making your life the best, for yourself and those who love you."
C. JoyBell C.

"It is not for me to judge another man's life. I must judge, I must choose, I must spurn, purely for myself. For myself, alone."
Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

A lot of time goes in thinking about others, what they have done to you, and how you have reacted to it. A lot more time also goes in thinking about what others will do to you in future and how you would respond to it. It is most of the time about others and the outside world. It is time for you to look at yourself and more importantly to look "into" yourself. You are born to be happy. You are meant to live your life with happiness. Remember, happiness comes from within, and not from outside. It is time you give time to yourself. If you could give at least 1% of your time to yourself, you will very soon be a very happy person.

Thought of the Day (131): How do you know who you are? Here is the way.

"Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes."
C. G. Jung

"At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want."
Lao Tzu

It is important to be self-aware and know who we are and what we want in our life. But the challenge is how to do that? How do you connect with yourself? How do you look within yourself? How do you understand your true potential and become aware of it? What should you do in order to learn about yourself? You can start doing the following 2 things to be successful in learning about yourself.

1) Sit quietly at a place where you are not disturbed by the external noises. Remain silent and ask simple questions about yourself. Just like a small stone dropped in a still pond creates small ripples, these questions will trigger the thoughts of yourself about yourself. You can ask questions like: 1) Who am I? 2) Where was I born? 3) Where did I go to school? 4) What did I do so far? 5) Who are the people I worked with and I served so far? 6) What are the things I loved most in my life? 7) What are my strengths that I enjoyed so far? 8) How can I put them to use for living my life to the best of my potentiality? And any other questions that will help you search for answers. This exercise should help you start appreciating who you are and learn more about your pure potentiality.

2) Secondly, stop judging others and others' actions. When you stop judging others, you start learning more about yourself. As long as you constantly judge things as right or wrong, good or bad, true or false, correct or incorrect, you distance yourself from your own self. So, stop judging people and their actions including yourself. Start thinking silently and start answering the questions of your mind about yourself, your origin, your growth, your development, your dreams and desires, and your path forward.

You will soon find who you are and what you want in your life.

Thought of the Day (130): Know who you are and what you want

"An amazing thing happens when you stop seeking approval and validation: You find it. People are naturally drawn like magnets to those who know who they are and cannot be shaken!"
Mandy Hale, The Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass

"I believe in knowing who you are but without limiting yourself to your own expectation of who you are."
Charlotte Eriksson, Empty Roads & Broken Bottles; in search for The Great Perhaps

Have you taken time once in a while to look within? To understand who you are? To be clear about what you want in your life?

It is important you take time for yourself. Sit quietly, listen to your inner voice, and connect with yourself and your spirit. Let there be a harmony between what your spirit wants and what you are living for. While doing so, let there be no self-limiting beliefs and external expectations restricting that connection with your self. That's the right path to your success in life.

You are born to succeed. Go for your greatness. You will achieve it when you are in tune with your inner self and understand who you really are and what you actually want for yourself.

Thought of the Day (129): Your treatment matters a lot to others and reveals a lot about you.

“At the end of the day, people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.”
Maya Angelou

"How people treat you is their karma; How you react is yours."
Wayne Dyer

Treat people right. Treat people important. Treat people as valuable whether they matter to you or not. The way you treat people does not reveal what or who they are. But it certainly tells a lot about you. By treating people good, you would do a world of good to this world. You can help people and make a difference in their just by treating them well.

Thought of the Day (128): Here is the very definition of SUCCESS

"Success in life can be defined as the continued expansion of happiness and he progressive realisation of worthy goals"
Deepak Chopra

"Success is 1) the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame; 2) the correct or desired result of an attempt; 3) someone or something that is successful : a person or thing that succeeds."
Merriam Webster Dictionary

What is your definition of success? Success for one does not and need not mean success for someone else. Success is something you gotta define for yourself and work towards achieving it and enjoying it. It is you who should decide what you want to do and how and when you will do it. Only then, you will know whether you achieved success in getting that or not. Go for it starting today. You are born to succeed.

Thought of the Day (127): Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; It is only transformed from one form to another.

"Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you."
Oprah Winfrey

"Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another."
Albert Einstein

Isn't it? We only transform it from one form to another. You are using it every minute for some activity of yours or the other. Let it be channelised in the direction of your chosen goal. Let it not get dissipated in all directions. Let it be laser-beam focused so that you are sure to get what you want in your life.

Conserve your personal energy and unleash it for your chosen mission in life. Your success is guaranteed.

Thought of the Day (126): Wake up feeling inspired and full of energy - every single day. It's time NOW.

"When I wake up each morning, I praise the Lord for the gift of being alive. New day, new hopes, new life!! "
Lailah Gifty Akita

"Today, change those first thoughts and you’ll change your entire week!"
Sandi Skrakowski

The first moment of your day when you get up from your bed is very very critical. Is it dull or full of energy? Do you drag your feet or rise like spring and feel the touch of the earth? Do you feel sleepy and lazy or inspired and alert? Do you dread the day ahead or feel thankful for another day in your life? It is time you seriously think about it. The first moment will set the tone for the rest of the day. Be mindful of it. Fill your first moment with a positive energy that could inspire you to give your best in everything you do and make your day a great day.

Spring up from your bed, gain the momentum as you walk and take your steps forward. Your days will be vastly productive and highly fulfilling.

Thought of the Day (125): Life is a force that flows in the direction that you choose to direct it.

"Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.
Lao Tzu

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.”
Martha Graham

The choice is yours. It is a force that is totally under your control. It acts upon your command and moves in the direction that you order it to flow. LIFE is a force that flows continuously. You are the master who directs it. It simply flows in the direction of your choice. Choose it wisely.

Are you aware of your present focus of your attention? Be mindful

Robin Williams

Your words have a lot of energy. They have the power to touch and melt the hearts of people. They can uplift the spirits of people and transform their lives.
