aum gahanaaya namah (ओं गहनाया नमः) (ఓం గహనాయ నమః)

The namam 'gahanah' describes one quality of Him that He gives, takes care of, nurtures, and provides everything, but is beyond the perception of people. This namam will appear again later as namam #548 

Like a father takes care of his children, whatever they are, whoever they are, and however they are, He also considers everyone as His and everything as His. He brings about changes in the knowledge, nurtures the body, and provides the joys of life, including a house and other things needed for a joyful living. Residing inside of them, He blesses them. This great nature of the Lord is beyond the comprehension of the people. This is the meaning of the namam, 'gahanah'.

namam no. 383) vikartaa (विकर्ता) (వికర్తా)

aum vikartre namah (ओं विकर्त्रे नमः) (ఓం వికర్త్రే నమః)

The namam 'vikartaa' means the one who changes.  As He also goes through the changes of joys and sorrows in Him, He is called vikartaa.

In the earlier namam 'kartaa', it has been said that He performs His tasks independently and that He enjoys the resultant joys and sorrows also. The objective of the creation is to save the beings from drowning in the samsaara saagara and elevate them to His abode. Like a father worries about his children going astray, He also goes through the pain when His people experience the difficulties in pursuit of their ambitions. Also when some of them attain moksha, He feels the joy of accomplishing results of good work. Thus, as He also goes through these changes in the form of joys and sorrows, He is called vikartaa.

namam no. 382) kartaa (कर्ता) (కర్తా)

aum kartre namah (ओं कर्त्रे नमः) (ఓం కర్త్రే నమః)

The one who works dedicatedly in order to accomplish a task without any influence of others and also enjoys the results of such a work, he is called kartaa. As paramaatma is independent and that He works without anybody's influence or interference, He is called 'kartaa.'  

The paramaatma created the universe and also the jeevaas (beings) that perform their tasks and enjoy the results of their efforts. By doing such an act of creation and enjoying the joys and sorrows associated with such a creation, the paramaatma became the true 'kartaa.'

namam no. 381) kaaranam (कारणम) (కారణం)

aum kaaranaaya namah (ओं कारणाय नमः) (ఓం కారణాయ నమః)

He is called "kaaranam" as He is the only one who makes the beings behave and Perform different activities with the senses he blessed them with. Such a kaaranam is the blessing we call as the god. And that god is none other than the paramaatma.

Anything that is responsible to accomplish a work is called 'kaaranam.' The words 'cause' and 'kaaranam' are synonyms. There are different types of causes: the temporary causes, the supportive causes, the facilitative causes, etc. In other words, the paramaatma is the cause of all the activities.

And, we are able to see directly the causes of the joys and sorrows we experience in this world. And we call it destiny or luck when there is a cause that we do not know. We also say that it was the will of God. And, that unknown cause called luck or the god is only the paramaatma, but not any other power.

namam no. 380) karanam (करणम) (కరణం)

aum karanaaya namah (ओं करनाय नमः) (ఓం కరణాయ నమః)

He is called Karanam as He became the main means and source for the beings in their progressions towards Him.  The word 'karanam' means 'sense' or 'indriya.' This word 'sense' is said to be both as a gnanendriya that acts as a tool to obtain knowledge and also as a karmendriya that helps in getting the work done. Thus the senses like the eyes and ears that facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and hands and eyes that are enablers of movement, work etc are called 'karanaas' as they are able to perform with the power blessed by the god. In fact, the paramaatma who gives them such a power becomes the 'karanam.'

He is called Parameswarah as He has great prosperity gained by Him when Lakshmi Devi joined Him on her own.

There are some who possess a good wife and children but not happy due to lack of a house and other assets or any wealth. There are some others who have all kinds of wealth but sad as they do not have wife and children to enjoy that wealth along with them. Unlike them, as the paramaatma is happy enjoying the great prosperity by having Sridevi and other divine companions like Garuda, Visvakshena, and others on one hand and also the great wealth on the other, He is called Parameswarah.

He is called Sreegarbhah as pleases Lakshmi Devi with his leelaas.

The word 'garbha' here means something that is nurtured and nourished with happiness. Here, as Lakshmi Devi stays with Him in all situations at all times happily, she is referred to be in the place of garbha. It means that the lord satisfies her with bhoga and aiswarya (prosperity).

He is called devah as He traps the beings in the cage of maaya and plays with them in the same manner as the animals were tied and caged with ropes and chains.

Here, the threefold nature (trigunaatmaka prakriti) of humans itself has become the rope that traps the people in the cycle of samsaara. He is called 'devah' as He traps them according to their deeds of paapa (sin) in the cage of body with such a rope of their own nature.

The word kshobha means 'sensation.'

He is called kshobhanah as He is the one who could bring about a sensational transformation in the nature of the jeev's (beings) and liberate them from the bonds of the worldly life.

The word 'bhava' means worldly life.

As He is the one who has the capability of liberating the jeev's from the cycle of birth and death and leading them to a higher status, He is called udbhavah.

namam no. 374) amitaaSanah (अमिताशनः) (అమితాశనః)

aum amitaaSanaaya namah (ओं अमिताशनाय नमः) (ఓం అమితాశనాయ నమః)

This namam ‘amitaasanah' reveals through an example His unstoppable nature that was described by the previous name of ‘vegavaan.'

The word ‘amitaasanah' means the one who ate an unlimited amount of food. He showed his power once by consuming, as a 5-year old boy, all the huge mountain-like pile of food that the people of Gokul actually offered to Indra as a sign of their reverence towards Indra for giving them the rain with which they thought they could grow their crops. 

How was it possible for a 5-year old little Krishna to eat all of that food? That is a sign of His godliness. This is just one of the many instances where we could notice his deeds that signified His godliness.

namam no. 373) vegavaan (वेगवान) (వేగవాన్)

aum vegavate namah (ओं वेगवते नमः) (ఓం  వేగవతే నమః)

He is called vegavaan  as He expressed undisputedly His nature of godliness, though He also lived and performed the actions of  an ordinary human in his childhood.

This namam also means that He had so much of speed that it was impossible for anyone to stop Him. That too, it was very special because He displayed all such power while he was still a child. Since the time of His birth, His actions such as decimation of demons like Putana, Shakataasura, Trinavrata, Aghaasura, Bakaasura, Vyomaasura, Vatsaasura, Kesi, Kaliya, etc in an unstoppable manner were simply extraordinary. The same is expressed here with the word vega.

When so many of the demons sent by Kamsa were so effortlessly killed by the little Krishna, Kamsa was very much annoyed and sent a highly powerful mystic demon Keshi, who took the form of a huge mad horse to kill Krishna. But when the Keshi approached Krishna with its mouth wide open to devour and kill Krishna, He pushed his hand into the mouth of Keshi, broke his teeth, and choked his throat to the extent that Keshi could not breathe any longer and suffocated to death.

This namam ‘mahaabhaagah’ refers to krishna paramaatma as the one who posssessed a great fortune.

He is called mahaabhaagah as he is the one who had the great fortune of being loved and accepted as their husband by so many women  including the Neeladevi of gokul, the sixteen thousand divine beauties like Gandharva, Siddha, Kinnera, and Kimpurusha who were rescued by Him from demon Narakaasura, and the asthamahishaas including Rukmini, Satyabhaama, and Jambavati. 

His beauty was so attractive that they all got attracted to Him and they accepted Him as their husband.

He is called maheedharah as He facilitated by reducing the burden of the earth through the destruction of the evil as revealed in his avataars of Rama, Krishna, and others.

He revealed it Himself in the Bhagavadgita that in order to protect the good, destroy the evil, and establish dharma in the world, He facilitated the destruction of the kshudraas and reduced the burden of the earth.

namam no. 370) sahah (सहः) (సహః)

He is said to be sahah as He tolerates when His devotees give Him punishments such as tying to a mortar, reprimanding, scaring, etc as was done by Yashoda during His Krishnaavataar.

Though He is the god of all, in order to experience the love and devotion of the devotees, He takes an avatar, provokes them, makes them angry, and tolerates all the pains associated with the punishments given to Him.

The word 'damam' means 'loka.'

He is called damodarah as He kept all the lokas in His stomach at the time of the pralaya.

The word damam also suggests pleasure, happiness, joy, etc. Hence, this namam also means that He reveals His happiness to His devotees.

According to Vishnu puraana, He is called damodarah as he was tied to the grinding mortar with a rope by Yashoda.

He is called hetuh as He is the reason for the devotees getting that kind of devotion towards Him and later giving them the fruits of such devotion.

The words 'hetuh' and 'reason' are synonyms.

He is not just the reason for giving the fruits of devotion. He is also the source giving His devotees the required power of devotion as revealed by this  'hetu' namam.

It means that He is the reason, the cause, and the source of all deeds.

Here the woprd 'maarga' means exploration. As He is explored by His devotees, He is called maargah.

As He blesses His devotees fulfilling their desires, they search for Him in order to find Him. In other words, it means learning about the form of the god which we do not know about. This means worshipping Him by keeping in mind His form, His qualities as revealed by the Saastraas. Thus, as He is searched and explored, He is called maargah.
