Thought of the Day (142): Teach Yourself; Teach Others.

"Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored."
Earl Nightingale

"A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning."
Brad Henry

Learning is a continuous process. It is important to learn everyday for updating your knowledge, upgrading your skills, and improving your attitude. There are plenty of opportunities available now-a-days for learning. There are books. There are people. There are several online resources which you could take advantage of and learn by yourself. A lot of it is available at FREE of cost. Learn to teach yourself.

Then, the next step to make use of that knowledge you gained and the skills you learned is to utilize them for the greater good of yourself and that of others. Share the knowledge with others. That will help you consolidate your own knowledge in the first place. When you teach others, you will also teach yourself. Won't you? You will by all means. When you teach, it would fall on your ears first before reaching those of the people you teach.

Teach yourself. Teach others. At every given opportunity!

 To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva

Monday Motivation for Success from Siva (74):This is why the elders said "Haste makes waste," and "Think before you act."

Hi,
We decide and act on a daily basis, and sometimes under the influence of momentary emotions. We get provoked and react in a flash only to realize later that we should have taken time to ponder and analyze the situation before acting on it. People lose their sense of judgment especially when they are enraged with doubt and suspicion. They take decisions and act instantaneously as they fall prey to anger and hatred. Is that right to act in such a haste, especially when the stakes are high? Would it not be wise and sensible to take time, ponder, think twice before acting up on, especially when such actions have a major impact on one's life? Let us take a look at this story from Shantiparva of Mahabharata..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is why the elders said "Haste makes waste," and "Think before you act."

Gauthama was one among the renowned seven sages. Once, ssuspecting his wife’s fidelity, he ordered his son Chirakari to kill his mother, and angrily went into the forest. Chirakari always takes his time to analyze the pros and cons of any issue before arriving at any conclusion, and then acts only after due contemplation. Here he was caught in the crosscurrents of allegiances: memories of his mother’s selfless love competing against the respect he owed his father.

Reeling under great stress, Chirakari continued to mull for days over the options available to him, ultimately deciding to abide by the command of his father. He procured a sword. He spent endless hours honing and filing it so that it could be sharp enough that his mother could be at least spared from the pain of death, not more than one swift flourish of the sharpest steel would cause. Days rolled by, but the instrument was not yet ready.
In the meantime, while the elder sage was in the forests, he received a providential revelation about the innocence of his wife. Deeply regretting the hasty decision he had made, the sage rushed back to the hermitage. The sage was happy to see his wife alive. Overcome by joy, he hugged both is wife and son. The sage regretted his hasty decision and lauded his son’s wisdom in letting serious contemplation take precedence over action.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is important for all of us to take decisions in life in order to move forward and live a life of happiness. While certain things could be decided at the snap of your fingers, some would need time. Depending on the magnitude and importance, issues have to be decided upon. Haste in every matter does not always help. Indecision is also a decision. Due attention should be given depending on the importance and decisions should be taken appropriately for success in life.

To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva

Sales Secret (58): Salesman vs Postman

Hi,
As a salesman, enjoy being a salesman, not a postman. It is the No's that you hear from your customer that should excite you to go out there and convert those No's into YES's. Rejections should not be deterring you to move forward in your sales profession. They should rather help you understand the importance of your role as a salesman.

If it is just receiving the orders from the customers and sending them to the dispatch section for processing those orders, it is more like the job of a postman. Isn't it? Receiving and sending messages from one person to the other is the job of a messenger. The excitement and enthrallment of a sales job truly lies in taking the refusals and rejections as challenges and converting them into sustainable sales relationships.

Converting the negative responses into positive purchases is selling in real terms. Selling starts when the customer says NO to your sales proposal. It does not end there. It actually begins then, because the role of a salesman is to work with the customer and convince him to convert his 'No' into an 'Yes.'

Hence, be excited about being a real salesman without falling to the trap of getting used to easy sales that come without any efforts of yours as a salesman, especially if you are at the beginning your sales career.

To your sales success,
With love,
Siva

Thought of the Day (141): From today, I will become useful

"What greater bliss than to look back on days spent in usefulness, in doing good to those around us."
Dorothea Dix

"As you have learnt something of time, value and make a proper use of it. Once past, it knows no return; how necessary, then, that you spend it in improving your mind and fitting it for future happiness and usefulness.
Dorothea Dix

Are you creating value to the organization you are working for? Are you useful to your family? Are you contributing to the happiness of the society you are living in. Are you using your god-gifted talents in a productive manner? Are you living the life of a giver? It is time you think critically about what you are and how you have been contributing to the people who you live and work with in particular and to the world in general.

Become a blessing to the mankind, not a burden. There is so much potential inside of you. That is not meant to be hidden. The purpose of your knowledge and skills you gained over time is to utilize them for the greater good of yourself, your family, your organization, and the society.

Unleash the best of yours, and start becoming a contributor from TODAY. Your success is guaranteed.

Thought of the Day (140): Smile liberally and raise your happiness quotient

"The smile on my face doesn't mean my life is perfect, it just means I appreciate what I have and what God has blessed me with."
Anonymous

"Because of your smile, you make life more beautiful."
Thich Nhat Hanh

Are you happy? If yes, where is that smile on your face that symbolizes your happiness? Are you hiding it? If so, why? Does the smile show up automatically as you talk? Smile is a god-given gift that is meant to be shared liberally with others, and NOT to be hidden inside. Let me share with you a personal experience of mine.

Yesterday, I met a lift mechanic who came to repair the lift in the place where I stay. He completed his job, and he was about to leave the place. After my inquiry about the status of the lift and what went wrong with it, I invited him for a cup of coffee, which he refused saying that he was on an urgency to go back home to meet some domestic issues. Elaborating further, he told that his wife was diagnosed with a water bubble inside her stomach and the doctor suggested her to undergo a surgery to remove the bubble. He said that he was worried because she had already undergone surgeries 3 times earlier for other reasons, and it might be difficult for undergo another surgery now.

And, one thing I noticed all the while as he was explaining was a smile on his face. I was wondering how he could keep that smile on his face even while he was going through such a difficult time. I was awestruck with appreciation for him and his attitude. His smile did not mean that he was not feeling the pain of his wife's illness. He was very much concerned, but he was able to smile. I am sure that attitude and that ability to retain a smile on his face will sail him through at all times, and make his family a happy family.

Keep that smile. For god sake do not lose it. He gifted it to you with a wish that you share it liberally with others. Smile and spread the cheer. You will soon see happiness quotient going up.

 To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva

Sales Secret (57): Your preparation for your sales call impresses your customer; PREPARE WELL.

Hi,
How prepared are you when you meet your customers? Do you consciously prepare well before you go to meet your customers? Is your sales kit ready? Does it contain all the items that you should be carrying with you? Do you have a check-list that helps you verify whether you are carrying all the essential or missing any of them? What questions hi might ask, and what should be your response to those questions? What questions you should be asking him? How are you going to close the sale and get the order? All in all, how physically, mentally, and intellectually prepared are you when you are out on a sales call?

While there are so many benefits that you would enjoy if you prepare well for your sales calls, I would like to state one important benefit of a good sales preparation here. That is the kind of impression your customer would get about you. If you are well prepared, he would be able to easily notice that you came prepared for the discussion. He would feel respected that you cared for the discussion with him. He would think that you acted like a professional. He would immediately get impressed with you, and he would also pay attention to you and participate in the discussion with a bit more seriousness. That would help you gain progress in your sales call, and possibly get you want you want from your customer.

Preparation is the key to sales success. Hence, prepare well every time you go on a sales call. Your success as a salesman is guaranteed.

To your sales success,
With love,
Siva

namam no. 374) amitaaSanah (अमिताशनः) (అమితాశనః)

aum amitaaSanaaya namah (ओं अमिताशनाय नमः) (ఓం అమితాశనాయ నమః)

This namam amitaasanahreveals through an example His unstoppable nature that was described by the previous name of ‘vegavaan.'

The word ‘amitaasanah' means the one who ate an unlimited amount of food. He showed his power once by consuming, as a 5-year old boy, all the huge mountain-like pile of food that the people of Gokul actually offered to Indra as a sign of their reverence towards Indra for giving them the rain with which they thought they could grow their crops.

How was it possible for a 5-year old little Krishna to eat all of that food? That is a sign of His godliness. This is just one of the many instances where we could notice his deeds that signified His godliness.

Saturday Story from Siva (64): The simple secret for a joyful living from 'The Strawberry Story"

Hi,
Take a moment. Ponder over the way you are living your life. Are you carrying the burden of the past? Worried out about the future? No, not really!! Great!! You are one of those who know how to live life in the present. But, is your present loaded with issues to be resolved and struggles that are making your life more difficult and  less joyful? Then, you should read this zen story that will reveal the secret for joyful living.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The simple secret for joyful living: The Strawberry Story
Adopted from a zen story published at http://www.taoism.net/living/2003/200301.htm

Once upon a time, there lived an young man. One day he walking through a jungle. He stumbled upon a tiger and started running away from it as the tiger was chasing him. He ran and ran, but soon came to the edge of a cliff where he could not run any farther. But to his good fortune, he found a strong vine hanging down from the cliff. To save himself, he hung on to the vine and started climbing down the cliff. Half way through the cliff, he noticed another tiger down there at bottom of the cliff waiting for him.

There was a tiger above the cliff, and another at the bottom, and he was precariously hanging in the middle holding on to the vine. Then, adding to his troubles, a couple of rats that came out of a hole from the cliff and started gnawing on the vine above him. He tried scaring them away but they kept coming back and gnawing on the vine. He knew the vine would not be able to continue to hold his weight if the rats kept gnawing like that. That moment he spotted a red ripe strawberry on the vine. Holding on to the vine with one hand, he reached out to the strawberry with the other, plucked it, and ate it instantly. It tasted very very delicious to him. he felt that that was the best strawberry he ever ate in his life.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Just like the situation in the story above, is life not full of uncertainties? Can anyone know for sure what would happen tomorrow? Can anyone change the past? Do you have issues that are nagging you in your day-to-day life? There are threats. At the same time, there exist opportunities. If we get worried about the past experiences and the future threats and in the process miss out to enjoy the opportunities in the present, we will never be able to taste the joys of life. As revealed in the story by the man who enjoyed to the core the opportunity of strawberry despite the threats in the form of tigers above and below him, it is important for us to understand that the secret of joyful living is in 'living in the present.'

To your continued success,
With love,
Siva

Thought of the Day (139): Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached

"Arise! Awake! and stop not until the goal is reached."
Swami Vivekananda

This is one of the most popular quotes of Swami Vivekananda. It is said that this quote has its origin in Katha Upanishad )chapter 1.3.14) as stated below:

उत्तिष्ठत जाग्रत प्राप्य वरान्निबोधत ।

उत्तिष्ठत (Arise), जाग्रत (Awake), प्राप्य वरान्निबोधत (stop not till the desired end is reached).

The word 'arise' suggests that we get up, keep moving, and be in action in the direction of our chosen goal.

The word 'awake' asks us to awaken ourselves from our ignorance of ourselves and our true potential. There is enormous potential hidden in each one of us which we are not aware of. It is time we understand that and start exploring ourselves and the enormous potential that we humans are gifted with. If we are fully and truly 'awake' in that context, there is nothing impossible for us to achieve. Any goal, however big it is, can be achieved.

With love,
Siva

Sales Secret (56): Sales with a benefit is a service, and without it is a fraud.

Hi,
Sellers sell with a purpose. Buyers also buy with a purpose. Buyers have their needs that are to be met. When their needs are met with your products and services as per their expectations, they feel benefited, and they feel delighted. And, they become your regular customers and buy repeatedly from you. That's what makes your sales grow. You become a trusted sales person and your company's credibility enhances in the market place.

On the other hand, sales without a benefit to the customer would be tantamount to a fraud. When a salesman sells something that does not meet the customer's needs, it is a loss to the customer. And, that makes the customer makes feel sorry for buying from you, and he would not buy from you any more. When you lose customers like that, you will not succeed in sales, and your company's business as well as reputation will fall down.

Remember that sales with a benefit to the customer is a service, and without it is a fraud. Hence, sell always that which benefits the customer in the best possible manner. That makes your customers happy. They become more loyal to your company. It will help your company retain its customers. There will be more of positive word of mouth spread around about you, your product, and your company. You will become a great salesman.

To your sales success,
With love,
Siva

namam no. 373) vegavaan (वेगवान) (వేగవాన్)

aum vegavate namah (ओं वेगवते नमः) (ఓం  వేగవతే నమః)

He is called vegavaan  as He expressed undisputedly His nature of godliness, though He also lived and performed the actions of  an ordinary human in his childhood.

This namam also means that He had so much of speed that it was impossible for anyone to stop Him. That too, it was very special because He displayed all such power while he was still a child. Since the time of His birth, His actions such as decimation of demons like Putana, Shakataasura, Trinavrata, Aghaasura, Bakaasura, Vyomaasura, Vatsaasura, Kesi, Kaliya, etc in an unstoppable manner were simply extraordinary. The same is expressed here with the word vega.

When so many of the demons sent by Kamsa were so effortlessly killed by the little Krishna, Kamsa was very much annoyed and sent a highly powerful mystic demon Keshi, who took the form of a huge mad horse to kill Krishna. But when the Keshi approached Krishna with its mouth wide open to devour and kill Krishna, He pushed his hand into the mouth of Keshi, broke his teeth, and choked his throat to the extent that Keshi could not breathe any longer and suffocated to death.

Thought of the Day (138): For those who think higher, no limits exist.

Hi,
“Believe you can and you’re half way there.”
– Theodore Roosevelt

"You can't change who you are, but you can change what you have in your head, you can refresh what you're thinking about, you can put some fresh air in your brain."
 - Ernesto Bertarelli

Think of this Roger Federer, The Greatest All Time Tennis Champion and to his wining ways at the age of 36. He was not winning any grand slams after his last grand slam in 2012 year after year. People thought age caught up with him. No one ever won a grand slam beyond the age of 32 in the open era. Everyone wrote him off. But he proved them wrong. After a 5-year long gap, he won a grand slam title at Australian Open this year, and followed it with his 8th Wimbledon Trophy. When you look at him now playing tennis, you find him to be very fresh with a lot of positive thinking and zeal to scale new heights.

Actually, he achieved so much in his life, he could have as well called it quits to tennis years ago and stayed back at home. There was not a single major tennis title he did not win. HBut his zeal to win more is greater now than ever before. His passion for the game is evident in every shot he hits. His love for the game shows that he is not the one who sits on his laurels, but the one who wants to explore the best of himself and prove to the world that limits do not exist for those who think higher and believe in accomplishing more.

It is time now to get rid of the self-limiting beliefs and strive to scale new heights in what you do. Go for it. You can do it. Start pushing yourself towards your chosen goal. Your success is guaranteed.

To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva

Sales Secret (55): Pitch it 'differently'

Hi,
I was facilitating a training workshop on "Communication Skills for Sales Effectiveness" the other day for the sales staff of an agri-input company. The salesmen who attended this workshop shared one important secret of their sales success. The same is presented herewith for your benefit.

They sell the same product (seeds), which many other salesmen of many other companies do sell. But these salesmen enjoy greater success in the market than the others. How? It is the same product, but the way they present it to the customer is different. They constantly challenge themselves and try to be different in the way they offer their benefits to their customers. They always think about becoming different from their competitors by asking themselves the question, "How do I do things differently?" They pitch their product in a different way. And, they are more successful.

Hence, explore and find ways of pitching your products or services 'differently' for your greater success.

To your sales success,
With love,
Siva

This namam ‘mahaabhaagah’ refers to krishna paramaatma as the one who posssessed a great fortune.

He is called mahaabhaagah as he is the one who had the great fortune of being loved and accepted as their husband by so many women  including the Neeladevi of gokul, the sixteen thousand divine beauties like Gandharva, Siddha, Kinnera, and Kimpurusha who were rescued by Him from demon Narakaasura, and the asthamahishaas including Rukmini, Satyabhaama, and Jambavati.

His beauty was so attractive that they all got attracted to Him and they accepted Him as their husband.

Unstoppable Updates (35): The 4 Keys for Your Happy and Successful Life

Hi,
I attended the other day at Ramakrishna Matt, Hyderabad a motivational talk given by Mr Amitabh Shah, who founded a social enterprise called "YUVA UNSTOPPABLE." From a small beginning in 2005, the organisation has now grown to be a major force to reckon with bringing in a huge transformation in the schools in rural areas of India. More about this organisation can be found on the web at http://yuvaunstoppable.org/

I would like to share with you 4 key messages of that talk that you may also like to learn from to lead a happy and successful life. Here they are:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) MAKE YOUR MOTHER SMILE:
Do something that could make your mother smile. If she is happy, your father is happy. If both the parents are happy, the children are happy. If your family is happy, chances are that your neighbours could also be happy, and further the community you live in, the state you belong to, the nation, the world, and the whole universe. It all begins with a mother's smile. Do something today that could your mother happy.

#2. GIVE GENUINE APPRECIATION:

Give a compliment or two to the people who matter to you..to your mother, to your father, your brother, your sister, your children, your friend, or your colleague. If it is a compliment a day, it makes 7 a week, 30 a month, and 180 in 6 months. And you know what the outcome would be. Firstly, it makes the other person have less of complaints against you. Incidentally, you would find yourself a lot better than what you were 6 months ago. Let your compliments be genuine. Start giving them from today.

#3. POWER POSING:
What it is and how to do it? Power posing is a gesture with both the hands up telling yourself self-affirmations like, "Yes, I can do it." Yes, I am capable." "Yes, I love my parents." Yes, I give my best." Yes, I am a good person." Yes, I am here to succeed." The 'Power Poses' will Instantly boost your confidence levels. Power posing for 2 minutes a day will do a world of good to you.

#4. GIVE A HUG:
No other relief is as affordable, efficient and healing as a hug! Human touch is the most powerful therapy in this world. Discover the healing power of touch! A hug is all perhaps one needs to feel loved and gain that ounce of energy that is needed to bounce back and lead a happy life. Let people feel your nurturing touch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, what are the 4 key actions for to start adopting in your life too? Here they are once again:
1) Start doing something or say a word or two that makes your mother smile.
2) Start giving genuine compliments to the people at home and the office.
3) Start power posing and becoming self-motivated.
4) Start giving a hug or a gentle caring touch to your loved ones.

To your unstoppable success,
With love,
Siva
