namam no.339) taaraNah (तारणः) (తారణః)

aum taaraNaaya namah (ओं तारणाय नमः) (ఓం తారణాయ నమః)

taarayati means to overcome, to avoid.

He is called taaraNah as He blesses His devotees to overcome the pains caused to them by other beings such as enemies, thieves, snakes, tigers, and other wild animals. These pains are referred to as aadhibhautika pains while the pains referred to in the last namam aSokah are aadhyaatmaka pains.

aum namo bhagavate vasudevaya!
