Monday Motivation for Success from Siva (67): Who could be your best friend or your worst enemy? Mind this.

Hi,
We all have friends. We also have some enemies. The best friend of course is the one who wishes our welfare, advises us in the right manner, comes to our rescue when needed, guides us on the right path, and does all those things that cause good to us. And, the worst enemy is just the opposite of this. It is important to recognise who that best friend is or could be and nurture him more and more so that we could lead a better life. Let us look at these incidences from The Ramayana and learn who that best friend could be.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who could be your best friend or your worst enemy? Mind this.

Ravana was the richest person at one time. He had the entire golden Lanka with him as its emperor. He had a big joint family. His wife Mandodari was a wise and beautiful queen. His brother Kumbhakarna was a very strong person with enormous strength. His son Indrajit was a great warrior who could defeat anyone in a war with his magical battle skills. Ravana himself was a highly learned scholar, a strong devotee of lord Shiva, and a capable ruler. Each and every person in his kingdom was obedient to him. They would listen to him and do whatever he would say. Everyone was under his control, but not his mind. His mind wanted him to take revenge against Rama. He wanted to abduct Sita Devi and bring her to his kingdom. His wife Madodari, brother Vibheeshana, his ministers, and even his brother Kumbhakarna, and many of his associates advised him that it was not the right thing to do, and pleaded with him to change his plans. But his mind insisted that he should go ahead. He listened to his mind and that led to his downfall, defamation, and ultimately his death. His mind became his worst enemy.

Let us look at the case of Hanuman. He is worshipped today as a god. What did he do that brought him so much glory, fame, and godhood? He also listened to his mind. But his mind told him to love Rama, praise Rama, and serve Rama. He became an ardent devotee of Rama and served him with body, mind, and soul. His mind guided him steadfastly on the path of dharma despite several obstacles and hardships that tested him and his loyalty to Rama. That was possible for him because he did not allow his mind get distracted by keeping it under his control. His mind thus became his best friend.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, who could be your best friend or your worst enemy? It is your mind. It is within you. It is either acting upon or acted upon. It is either controlling you or being controlled by you. It could become your best friend guiding you on the right path and helping you lead a happy and peaceful life. Or it could also lead you nowhere and cause enormous stress and pain to you. But, remember! You are the one who has the ultimate power to convert it into your best friend or allow it to turn out to be your worst enemy. Please be mindful of this mind and let it become your best friend.

To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva
