Lord Vishnu blessed the devatas with happiness by doing several good things in their favour like a friend that comes to the rescue in times of trouble.
The swan avatar (hamsaavatar) is the very first avatar of swamy anirudhdha, who was the root source of all the avatars. He took the swan avatar and preached Brahma the vedas that were stolen by the rakshashas. Thus, He made all the devatas very happy, as revealed by this nama, suraananda.
