Nama No. 182) mahaadridhrut (महाद्रिधृत) (మహాద్రిధృత్)
om mahaadridhrute namah (ओं महाद्रिधृते नमः) (ఓం మహాద్రిధృతే నమః)
This is a nama that reveals the story of kurma avatar. This nama mahaadridhrut means that Lord Vishnu is the one who was wearing (holding) the great Mandara mountain at the time of the churning of the ocean (samudramadhanam) by the devatas and rakshasas.
He took the roopa of kurma (the tortoise) and wore the mountain from its bottom. In that difficult situation when everyone was helpless without knowing how to churn the ocean and use a mountain as a tool but to see that it doesn't sink to the bottom, who else could take such a challenge other than Him? That mountain was so huge that it could not be carried by any number of people. But, the roopa of kurma avatar was so strong that it only could withstand the friction generated by the movement of the mountain during the process of churning.
