Monday Motivation for Success from Siva (MMFS-34): If it is a 'Do or Die' situation, it will happen.

Hi,
Read a story that an ambitious young man was very anxious to know if he would be successful in accomplishing his dreams. Hence, he approached a wise monk and asked him to predict if he would ever achieve his chosen goals. The monk told him that he would be successful if his desire to achieve those goals was so strong that he would strive to achieve them as if his very survival depended on them. Let us take a look at an incident from the Mahabharata that supports this opinion and draw inspiration from it.
--------------------------------------------------------

If it is a 'Do or Die' situation, it will happen

On the 13th day of the Kurukshetra war, when Arjuna was away fighting Samsaptakas in
a fierce battle, the kaurava army rearranged itself in a lotus formation (padmavyuham also known as chakravyuham) and attacked the pandava army in which Arjuna’s beloved son Abhimanyu was brutally killed by the kauravas in an unethical manner against the code of the war. Arjuna on his return came to know that the king Jayadratha, son-in-law of Dhritarashtra, who blocked entire pandava army and prevented them to support Abhimanyu, was the cause of his son’s death. He instantly took an oath, “I will kill the wicked Jayadratha before sunset tomorrow. If I fail to do so, I will kill myself.”

The news of the oath reached the kauravas. They hid Jayadratha in a safe place and guarded the way of about 12 miles all along with the strongest of the warriors including Drona in the front followed by Durmarshana, Duhsasana, Kritavarma, Sudakshina, Srutayudha, Bhurisravas, Karna, Aswatthama, Salya, Vrishsena, Kripa, and many others along with their forces. Arjuna’s desire to find and kill Jayadratha was so strong that he conquered one after the other by some means or the other as he made his way ultimately to Jayadratha and engaged with him in a battle that raged long.

Krishna was watching all this, and wanted to support Arjuna in his mission. He sent his sudarshan chakra and blocked the sun for a brief while that made the sun disappear.  As the darkness came in, Jayadratha thought that the sun had set and the time-limit of danger from Arjuna was over and that he was saved. He along with Duryodhana and all the kauravas thought that now Arjuna would feel disgraced and kill himself. As they rejoiced, relaxed, and their attention got diverted, Arjuna took that opportunity and shot his arrows at Jayadratha that cut his head and carried it away. After Jayadratha’s death, Krishna withdrew his sudarshan chakra from the galaxy and the sun reappeared and shone brightly for an hour before setting down the horizon.

Thus, Arjuna redeemed his oath successfully.

Yes, dreams are essential for living a life of purpose and fulfilment. Goals provide a direction to reach them. But it is the magnitude of strength of the desire to accomplish those goals and dreams that transforms them into a reality or not. The stronger the desire is the better the chances of success.  We may say, I want to do this. I wish to go there, I love to become that. But in order to accomplish them, it is important to ask oneself, “How strongly do I desire to achieve it? Do I see it critical for my life? Is my desire to achieve my most important goals in life so strong that I am treating them as though my life and my very survival depended on them?” It’s time for a self-check.

To your success,
With love and regards,
Siva
