namam no 226) sahasramoordhaa (सहस्रमूर्धा) (సహస్రమూర్ధా); 228) sahasraakshah (सहस्राक्षः) (సహస్రాక్షః); 229) sahasrapaat (सहस्रपात) (సహస్రపాత్); 227) viSvaatmaa (विश्वात्मा) (విశ్వాత్మా)

om sahasramoordhne namah (ओं सहस्रमूर्ध्ने नमः ) (ఓం సహస్రమూర్ధ్నే నమః)
om sahasraakshaaya namah (ओं सहस्राक्षाय नमः) (ఓం సహస్రాక్షాయ నమః )
om sahasrapaade namah (ओं सहस्रपादे नमः) (ఓం సహస్రపాదే నమః)
om viSwaatmane namah (ओं विश्वात्मने नमः) (ఓం విశ్వాత్మనే నమః )

We have learned earlier that the matsyaavataara murthy is a vidyaswaroopam - an embodiment of education. As He protected and retrieved the vedas, we could get to acquire the knowledge of the features and the form in which we could pray to him in the form of purushasooktam.

Here we have to place the 2nd namam (no. 227) viSwaatmaa as the 4th namam in the order of its presentation according to purushasooktam and the meaning of the namam.

In all these 4 namams, the word sahasra means not just a thousand, but innumerable and countless. The words moordha - akshi - paada are revealing the god's strengths and capabilities. The moordha and akshi namams are describing the head and eyes, the symbols of gnana - knowledge or wisdom. And, the paada word suggests the hands and feet that are the karmendriyas.

Thus the namams sahasramoordha, sahasraaksha, and sahasrapaat reveal that He has thousands of heads, eyes, hands and feet. In essence, these 3 namams suggest that He has the capability to know and do everything. The 4th namam viSwaatmaa suggests that the swamy who has such strengths of knowledge and power is all present across the whole universe.

viSwasya - aatmaa = viSwaatmaa

om namo bhagavate vasudevaya!
