Thought of the Day (84): This is what Michelangelo said when he was 87...

"I am still learning."
Michelangelo, at age 87.

If a genius of the order of Michelangelo says so at the age of 87. You and I gotta believe it and learn from it.

YES, learning is a continuous process, a life-long process. It should NOT stop on the day you come out of your school or college. Want to succeed more and more & better and better?? Ask yourself this question at the end of every single day, "What have I learned today?"

Thought of the Day (83): Accept Assignments As Unique Missions.

"Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated, thus, everyone's task is unique as his specific opportunity to implement it."
Viktor E. Frankl

An assignment is an opportunity to exhibit your skills and key competencies. Transform your assignment into a MISSION that has to be accomplished by you by all means. You have your own set of strengths which no one else on this planet has. Use them at your best and enjoy the sense of fulfilment that comes with it. Put in excellence in every effort, and YOUR SUCCESS is guaranteed...100%.

The words growing and nurturing are synonyms. As described in the earlier namam, He nurtures His devotees like a mother. This namam vardhamaanah further reveals that He also becomes joyful by His such a nurturing of His devotees and seeing them safe.

Another reason why paramaatma is called vardhamaanah refers to the 'growth' in His devotees and their devotion towards Him.

Monday Motivation for Success from Siva (51): The Great Make Others The Heroes.

Hi,
True leadership lies in making others the heroes, and not of oneself. It is in making others look as the true achievers, though you as a leader is the one who did the work. It is in helping others become more respectful. It is in even doing those things that may appear as acts of low caliber. Because they are done in order to make others the heroes. Let us take a look at these instances in Mahabharata and take a cue or two from them what a great leader should be:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Great Make Others The Heroes
The word 'rathi' means the one who stands on a chariot fights a war. (and 'saradhi' means who guides the horses and rides the chariot).. Krishna gave the status of rathi to Arjuna by becoming his saradhi - the charioteer in the Battle of Kurukshetra. Though rathi is the one who is supposed to protect himself, the horses, the charioteer, and his army by fighting against the enemies, here Krishna is the one who protected Arjuna without allowing any harm to him. And, he remained a charioteer and made Arjuna look like a warrior and got him all the respect of a great fighter.

In the same way, Krishna helped Ugrasena and Yudhishthira gain the power and respect of kings. Ugrasena was the father of Kamsa who was imprisoned by his own son. Kamsa ruled the kingdom by keeping his father in the prison. Krishna intervened, killed Kamsa, liberated Ugrasena from the prison, and made him the king again. He helped him gain all the respect associated with that kingship.

Similarly, Krishna crowned Yudhishthira the king of Hastinapura after causing the defeat of kauravas in the battle of Kurukshetra.
It was Krishna's kindness that he attributed the respect of kingship to Ugrasena and Yudhisthira, though he did all the hard work. In the battle of kurukshetra, he was the one who did everything that was required to win the battle, but allowed Arjuna gain the respect of a great warrior.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Leadership is in helping others gain more respect. That is possible only when one is willing to attribute the credit of success to the people below. And it requires courage and confidence in oneself to do so. When the credit is passed on and you make others look the heroes, you become a true leader. Then, even the heroes love to follow you.

To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva

Thought of the Day (82): You are a performer. Aren't you? Better be.

"All the best performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on paper."
Stephen Sondheim

The world is a stage and you are a performer. Wherever you are, whoever you are, PERFORM at your best...every single day...at every given opportunity! YOUR SUCCESS is 100% guaranteed.

namam no. 262) vardhanah (वर्धनः) (వర్ధనః)

It means that the paramaatma protects His devotees just like a mother cares for her child by taking in her lap.

Sales Secret (30): Conviction counts, not convenience.

Hi,
Do you go to buy in the shop next door just because it is convenient for you? May be sometimes. But not necessarily always! Because, convenience matters only to some extent. People travel miles to buy from a specific shop because they are confident of getting what they want. They are convinced that they get the best deal there. When they have such a conviction, the convenience does not count any more.

So, you must help your customer also gain that kind of conviction that he wants buy from you....only from you. He comes to you because he gained the required conviction. You treated him well. You showed concern for him. You worked out the best deal for him. You always listened to him to understand his needs. You provided him the best solution to meet those needs. You sold him the way he liked you to sell to him.

That is the way to success in sales. Customer conviction brings about sustainable sales. On the other hand, if a customer comes to you just because of the convenience for him to buy from you, you will sell him far less than when he buys from you out of his conviction.

Start thinking from today what are all the things that you can do to help your customers gain that conviction to buy from you. Gain more and more of 'customers by conviction.' You will sell your way to SUCCESS.
To your sales success,
With love,
Siva

Thought of the Day (81): Do you know that you are on a big mission? Yes, YOU are.

"You have so many extraordinary gifts. How can you expect to lead an ordinary life?"
Louisa May Alcott

"If you want to lead an extraordinary life, find out what the ordinary do–and don't do it."
Tommy Newberry, Success is Not an Accident: Change Your Choices Change Your Life

Do you know that YOU are involved in something that is EXTRAORDINARY? Yes, that's true. Just take a deeper look at what your doing. You will get to see far reaching consequences involving a huge number of people and a enormous significance. After all, you are not ordinary. When you are extraordinary, how can you be doing only ordinary things? The world is calling you. Go for it and give your best.

Thought of the Day (80): Today's grind gives tomorrow's glory; Just love it.

"The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand."
Vince Lombardi

Are you on a MISSION to achieve a BIG GOAL? Then, it is a long, slow grind of working hard. If you LOVE THE PROCESS, it is going to be a pursuit filled with happiness. Else, the grind is tough. So, just love it. Soon, the work becomes pleasure. The key is to follow your bliss.

aum vrushaparvaNe namah (ओं वृषपर्वणे नमः) (ఓం వృషపర్వణే నమః)

The word 'vrusha' means dharma, the code of conduct. It is a synonym of dharma. The word parva means steps or stairs.

The Saastraas clearly described and differentiated the code of conduct to be followed by humans at different stages in their life. All of them are like the steps towards obtaining the blessings of god. Thus the paramaatma is called vrushaparvaa as all the dharmaas are only a means of reaching the abode of god in a step by stem manner.

Sales Secret (29): Better and better for less and less is more and more; HOW?

Hi,
In continuation of what we were discussing yesterday on increasing the sales, let explore this secret of "Giving better and better for less and less leads to more and more."

When your endeavour is to provide your customer with better and better of your products or services or ideas for less and less of cost,  he may buy more and more from you. That however doesn't mean that you sell for less and make losses for your organisation. Your effort should be towards continually developing or designing your offer in such a way that it not only fits the bill of your customer and but also maximises its value for every penny he spends. That will help him buy more and more from you.

Master the art of maximising value and minimising costs for your customers. You will sell your way to SUCCESS.

Thought of the Day (79): Deliver more than expected....Always!

"If I train well and stay focused, I'm confident I can deliver when the time comes."
Ashley Wagner

Don't promise more than what you can deliver. But, deliver more than what is expected. It is possible for you deliver more, if you are willing to stretch and walk the extra mile. And, that will make you extraordinary, a stand-out from the crowd of mediocrity that delivers just what is expected. All that it requires is to bring out a little more of you and your enormous potential in everything you do. You are guaranteed to succeed....100%.

Sales Secret (28): Help customers spend money....correctly.

Hi,
In yesterday's sales secret, we found that helping customers save money would help the sales people achieve more sales. And, today's sales secret is - help customers spend money. Aren't they quite contradictory? Not really! Actually, by helping them save money, you help them spend money too. Because, when you suggest solutions that save their money, you earn their goodwill which would result in lasting sales for you.

Customers, with limited information available at their hand, find it difficult to make decisions. They go through the confusing dilemma : to buy or not to buy, to spend or not to spend, now or later, this one or that one, etc. It is the salesman's responsibility to help them make correct decisions by providing all relevant information and empower them to make the decision to buy.

You have to have the intent of helping the customer getting the most appropriate solution that meets his requirements at the least possible cost. That will earn you goodwill and empower your customer to spend money....correctly.

Thought of the Day (78): One simple secret for winning for ever

"Winning Forever is not about the final score; it’s about competing and striving to be the best. If you are in this pursuit, then you’re already winning."
~ Pete Carroll

You don't have to win over the others. The one person you must aim at winning is yourself. If you could bring the best out of yourself, you achieve the biggest win. There is so much potential in you that is hidden and untapped. It is waiting to be unleashed by you. Look within. Aim big. Strive at your best...every single day. Your success is guaranteed 100%. And you will win forever.

Sales Secret (27): Money matters for all - big or small

Hi,
Money matters for all. Whether one is rich or poor, money is always welcome. The more money you could make for your customer the more your products and services are accepted by your customers. So, the objective has to be always to help the customer make more money. Not less.

Then, how could you create more wealth for your customers? Though you are actually asking him to spend money when you are asking him to buy, you can make money for him too. The first step in this process is to help him save the amount of money he spends on his buy itself. So it is important for you to explore and learn the exact need of your customer and help him with the most cost effective solution and reduce his amount of spending.

A penny saved is a penny earned. Save money for your customers.

To your sales success,
With love,
Siva

Thought of the Day (77): Feedback is a free gift; Give and take.

“Foolish are the generals who ignore the daily intelligence from the trenches."
Author Unknown

“We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve.”
– Bill Gates

Do you give feedback to the people you deal with at your workplace and also at home? Do you also like to ask for feedback? It is important to get as well as give feedback. And doing it more effectively in the manner in which it serves the purpose is important for the individual or the organisation he or she works with.

The next time, if someone gives you feedback, accept is as a gift given to you. Analyse it and take advantage of it for your own improvement. Please do not ignore it, especially when it comes from the people below, as they are closer to than situation than you are. That is more realistic and could help in taking appropriate measures.

The word dharma reflects a source of welfare. Thus this namam vrushaahee means that He is the one who has the day that is a source of welfare.

It could be inferred that the day on which a person gets to see god or start having bhakti, it is the beginning of all good for him from that day.

Monday Motivation for Success from Siva (50): "anguleeva vuragakshata." Discard the bad however dear it is.

Hi,
Everyone is equal to god. It is not that he likes some and dislikes some others. As such he is there in each one of us. He is the one who created and established all. Then, why does he favour some and punish some others? Is it for the good of all including even the one that is punished? How and why?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
anguleeva vuragakshata - Discard the bad however dear it is.
Let us take the case of parents. They have same feelings towards their children. They treat them unbiased. Their main objective is to wish for the welfare of all of their children. If there are any differences in the attitude and behaviour of their children, they are not responsible for that. They try to correct if someone is doing anything wrong among them. If they quarrel, they try to see that it would not lead to any serious destruction. They also prevent the stronger of them causing any hurt to the weaker one. They don't even hesitate to punish the bad one if he doesn't listen to them in order to avoid him causing inconvenience to others. Don't they do this? Aren't they right in doing this?

Take a look at this story of the king Dileep. There were some members of his court liked by him very much. They helped him in someway at sometime. That didn't mean he remained respectful to them forever. When one of them showed a bad attitude, he distanced him without allowing him to come nearer to him. It became unavoidable to him to keep him away. However dear to him he was, he kept him away in order to avoid other negative consequences as a good code of conduct of a king.

This is symbolically presented in the phrase - "anguleeva vuragakshata." Anguli means a finger.  It is a part of a body. We like it very much. We beautify it with a ring. We paint and polish the nail. If a snake bites it, what do we do? It is better to cut it off to protect the rest of the body and save the life. In the same way, for a king, it is better to discard a bad one even if he is dearer to him.

In essence - a leader who is unbiased may have both types of people, liked and disliked by him. It is against the law if he punishes a good person just because he does not like him. Similarly favouring a bad one just because he likes him is also not correct. The good have to be encouraged and the bad punished. That punishment given to the wicked is also meant for protecting the good people and welfare of the whole team and the organisation. And, it might as well help the wrong one to change his attitude and become better in due course of time.
The same thing applies to god as well. Isn't it? The pandavas were good while the kauravas were bad which was quite evident from their own deeds and behaviour. Hence, Krishna had to protect the good pandavas from the wrong doings of the stronger kauravas. As such, the kauravas were also close relatives of Krishna. They were also dear to him. But like the 'poisoned finger,' they had to be punished. He thus favoured the pandavas and supported them. His job was to avoid the bad making the good suffer. In case the pandavas were bad,  he could not have avoided punishing them too.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you do as a team leader? As a parent? As a good citizen? Do you encourage someone doing something wrong just because you like him. Or punish a good one just because you don't like him? Please do post your comments on this post at the comments section below.
To your continued SUCCESS,

Sales Secret (26) : Help Your Customer With Hot Tips

Hi,
It is important that the customer uses your product or a service or an idea or anything that you sell and gets the maximum benefit out of it. Isn't it? Only then, he would come back to you for the same again and again. If he gets anything less than the maximum utility of what you are providing, it neither serves his purpose nor yours.

So, how do you help your customer get the maximum value of what you are selling? How can make him learn the ways and means of getting the best out of what you are giving? How will it be possible for the customer to enjoy the best results of what you sell to him?

Only when he knows how to make the best use of it. Only when he is given not only the product or service but also all the associated relevant knowledge of putting it to the right use. Most sales people think that the customers would know it and do not bother to focus on helping the customer learn about the product usage as much as the effort they put in selling. It is more important to help the customer learn all the tips and tricks of using what he buys so that he enjoys the maximum value of it and becomes a repeat purchaser.

Remember to provide hot tips and help your customer with the knowledge of getting the best out of what you are selling.
To your sales success,

Thought of the Day (76): What a great prayer this one is! Can it be your prayer too?

“Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart."
Mahatma Gandhi

“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays"
Søren Kierkegaard

This is my prayer to my god too....."Use me God. Show me how to take who I am, who I want to be, and what I can do, and use it for a purpose greater than myself." Can this be your prayer too?

Thought of the Day (75): Platinum Rule

“Why the double standard, the generosity toward our neighbor and the miserliness where we ourselves are concerned? And so I propose that we add a new rule, which we can call the Platinum Rule, to our moral code: ‘Do not do unto yourself what you would not do unto others."
Tal Ben-Shahar from The Pursuit of Perfect

If you would like to be kind to others, be kind to yourself too. If you don't like to hate others, don't hate yourself too. Don't disrespect yourself, if If you would not disrespect others. You deserve as much as others do. You are as good and as valuable as others are. So why not you treat yourself with as much care, concern, and respect as you would do unto others? Whatever the situation may be or the circumstances you are in, remember the Platinum Rule - "Do not do unto yourself what you would not do unto others."

om siddhidaaya namah (ओं सिद्धिदाय नमः) (ఓం సిద్ధిదాయ నమః)

The god is called siddhidah as He blesses those who worship Him with aNima, garima, etc.

The learned say that aNima, garima, etc are the 8 siddhis (ashtasiddhus). They are:

1) aNima = atomic - taking minutest form;
2) mahima = gaining the largest form;
3) garima = having very heavy weight;
4) laghima = having the lightest body;
5) praapti = ability to get immediately what is desired;
6) praakaamyam = ability to go to any world and move with freedom;
7) eeSvatam = ability to establish all;
8) vaSitvam = having control on senses.

In essence, it means that god has the ability to bless His devotees with these 8 riches.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!

Hi,
Happy Ganesh Chaturthi. We are all celebrating the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi also called as Vinayaka Chavati today. We avoid seeing the moon today. Because we believe that it would be quite inauspicious to see the moon on this particular day of Vinayak Chavati. Even by a mistake if one gets to see the moon tonight, that attracts false accusations, unfavourable results, and serious negative consequences. It is further believed that that if one does Ganesha Pooja or at leasts listens to the story of Ganesha on this day, then sighting the moon tonight does not cause any damage. Let me share with you  an interesting story about Lord Ganesha and the background for this belief in this blog post.
-----------------------------------------------------
The Story of Lord Ganesha and the Curse of Parvati Devi to the Moon.
The legend suggests that Lord Shiva crowned Ganesha as the leader of Kailash on this 4th day of the Bhadrapada month of the Hindu calendar. People all over the world were very happy and celebrated the day worshipping Ganesha and offering him a lot of food including coconuts, honey, and many different types of sweet dishes which Ganesha liked. On one such occasion, he ate stomach full of them, gave some to his carrier - the rat, and also carried some with him.

By the time he arrived at home, it was already dark, and his mother Parvati Devi asked him to touch the feet of his father Shiva and take his blessings. With his large stomach coming in between him and the ground, he was having difficulty in touching his father's feet. Looking at this, the crescent moon lying in the head of Shiva laughed at Ganesha. The evil eye of moon had its effect on Lord Ganesha whose tummy immediately burst open and all the laddus he had rolled out.
At this sight of his dear son, Mother Parvati was enraged and cursed the moon saying, "Oh Moon, you are proud of your beautiful face and make fun of my dear little son. Let your beautiful face be not visible to the people on the Earth. Let you remain in darkness for ever. Whoever sees your face, they will attract blame and face false accusations."

Hearing this terrible curse the moon and all other devatas begged for Parvati Devi's forgiveness and requested her to minimise the effedt of the curse. She then calmed down and relaxed the curse saying that whoever see this crescent face of moon on Ganesh Chaturthi day will have to face false accuses. From thence people fear to see the crescent face of moon on this festival day to avoid unnecessary false accuses.

Smile is a beautiful gif t of god to the humans. It is good to offer a smile liberally to the people we come across at work place or at home or even on the road. A smile would never hurt another person. If it all it would only benefit. Even laughter is equally good to one and all. It is said to be the best of all medicines. The disease will stay away from the person who laughs heartily. But laughing at someone is unwanted and unwarranted for. The habit of pulling legs of others and making a mockery of them is unprofessional. It could lead to a lot of negative consequences.

Smiling is sweet. Laughing is healthy. But "laughing at someone" attracts negative influences, and it is better avoided.
Wishing you a Happy Ganesh Chaturthi,
With love and regards,
Siva
