Monday Motivation for Success from Siva (74):This is why the elders said "Haste makes waste," and "Think before you act."

Hi,
We decide and act on a daily basis, and sometimes under the influence of momentary emotions. We get provoked and react in a flash only to realize later that we should have taken time to ponder and analyze the situation before acting on it. People lose their sense of judgment especially when they are enraged with doubt and suspicion. They take decisions and act instantaneously as they fall prey to anger and hatred. Is that right to act in such a haste, especially when the stakes are high? Would it not be wise and sensible to take time, ponder, think twice before acting up on, especially when such actions have a major impact on one's life? Let us take a look at this story from Shantiparva of Mahabharata..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is why the elders said "Haste makes waste," and "Think before you act."

Gauthama was one among the renowned seven sages. Once, ssuspecting his wife’s fidelity, he ordered his son Chirakari to kill his mother, and angrily went into the forest. Chirakari always takes his time to analyze the pros and cons of any issue before arriving at any conclusion, and then acts only after due contemplation. Here he was caught in the crosscurrents of allegiances: memories of his mother’s selfless love competing against the respect he owed his father.

Reeling under great stress, Chirakari continued to mull for days over the options available to him, ultimately deciding to abide by the command of his father. He procured a sword. He spent endless hours honing and filing it so that it could be sharp enough that his mother could be at least spared from the pain of death, not more than one swift flourish of the sharpest steel would cause. Days rolled by, but the instrument was not yet ready.
In the meantime, while the elder sage was in the forests, he received a providential revelation about the innocence of his wife. Deeply regretting the hasty decision he had made, the sage rushed back to the hermitage. The sage was happy to see his wife alive. Overcome by joy, he hugged both is wife and son. The sage regretted his hasty decision and lauded his son’s wisdom in letting serious contemplation take precedence over action.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is important for all of us to take decisions in life in order to move forward and live a life of happiness. While certain things could be decided at the snap of your fingers, some would need time. Depending on the magnitude and importance, issues have to be decided upon. Haste in every matter does not always help. Indecision is also a decision. Due attention should be given depending on the importance and decisions should be taken appropriately for success in life.

To your continued SUCCESS,
With love,
Siva
